Module 3: Emotions

“We don’t take action to get results. We take action because of how we think we will feel when we have the result.”

What Is An Emotion
Emotions are chemicals, they are molecules.
Emotions are tangible, they are measurable.
Thoughts are sentences in our brain – they are not measurable or observable.
Emotions, on the other hand, are the physical representation of thought.
They are released into the body when we have a thought that we BELIEVE.
Depending on the thought, a different emotion will be released into the body.

Emotions are neuropeptides or neurotransmitters and function by acting on cell receptor sites.
You have a thought and the brain releases the emotion into the body.
The body is flooded with these chemicals.
They attach themselves to the cells of the body through receptor sites; like a key going into a lock, the emotion unlocks and enters the cells.
This causes a physiological change to occur in your body at the cellular level.
This ‘change’ feels like a vibration.
Different emotions create different vibrations.
We call these vibrations ‘feelings’.
That is how we ‘feel’ our emotions, we feel the cells vibrating.
Sometimes, the feeling is comfortable and good (love, confidence, excitement, happiness, pride).
Other times, the feeling is uncomfortable and bad (anger, frustration, fear, annoyance, boredom).
Since emotions are chemicals and create a physiological change, you can see how easy it is for people to become addicted to a specific feeling or emotion.

Emotions are important because they drive our actions.
We don’t act to get a result, we act because of how we feel.
We might want to get a specific results, but we only want that result because of how we think that result will make us feel.
If life could be summed up in one word, it would be ’emotion’.
As Alpha Men, we have to learn to feel and control our emotions in a way that serves us and produces the results we want in life.

Watch the video below for a deeper description of what emotions are, how emotions work, and what it is that we ‘feel’.

Self-Study Assignment for Module 3, Day 1

In your notebook, do a thought download every day this week. For this week, start with a specific circumstance to do your thought download on. It can be anything that is a circumstance – it must be neutral and objective. It can be what someone said or did, something that happened in the past, or something that is happening now (it’s raining outside or your current body weight). Do a model for two of the thoughts in your download.

In your notebook, spend 10 minutes listing emotions and then answer the questions:

Make a list of as many emotions as you can think of.
You don’t have to know what they feel like or have felt them before, just try to think of as many emotions as possible.

What are the top three emotions you feel most often, on a daily basis?
Why do you think you feel these emotions most often?
What would you like your most commons emotions to be – what would you like to feel the most often?
Why do you want to feel these emotions the most?
How would the results in your life change if you changed your most common felt emotions?
Would you keep any the same?
Why or why not?
